Proverbs 3:18 (MSG)
She's the very Tree of Life to those who embrace her. Hold her tight~and be blessed!!
What is it about a cupcake that is so inticing? Seriously!!
I have the answer to this question. I get so excited when I have a definitive answer to a question! You see, the cupcake analysis all started on Monday when I had the privilege of making cupcakes for my daughter's class on Valentines Day. Those very cupcakes have been in my home for two complete days now, and I have studied them carefully! For starters, their sweet aroma as it wafts throughout the house, fills your breath with a gentle hint of yumminess. Next, they're just plain old cute. Think about it....have you ever seen an ugly cupcake? Nope...I didn't think so. Then of course we need to take into account their shape. They are usually round with the dome on top that adds a sort of completeness that the square cookie could never have! Finally, it is the memory of the taste of our last cupcake encounter that lingers in our minds and dances around begging for an update to the "brain taste file". You know it's true.
Then it happens...the big cave in...of the will power that is. A concious decision is made to simply sample a small corner of one cupcake and the next thing you know, two empty paper wrappers are lying on the cabinet like yesterday's junk mail. Oh sure, they were delicious for what....all of one hundred and twenty seconds? You walk away from the plate feeling defeated and a little smaller than before. Why is that??
It's because the cupcake was wonderful and delicious for just that brief few seconds, but there is no nourishment in it. There is nothing in it to feed your body! It is simply empty calories...and now you've ruined your diet plan for the day.
It's like that in life isn't it? We run around trying to experience warm fuzzy feelings whereever we can find them. We succeed for a time in that mode, but not for long, because there is nothing to sustain that. Not so with the wisdom and insight that God gives us. She is a "Tree of Life", the verse says, with deep roots to support us and shoulder our burdens, thereby regenerating those areas of injury and allowing us to feel real and lasting freedom. Praying tonight to embrace God's wisdom and hold tight, so that I can experience all of His blessing in my life.
