Proverbs 6:20(MSG)
Good friend, follow your father's good advice; don't wander off from your mother's teachings.
Well, if I wasn't already convinced what an incredible role parents play in the life of their child, I would be sure about it now after reading tonight's verse. Where my mind is traveling tonight, is to the "good advice" and "teachings" part of this directive. It seems like there is a clear assumption in these words, that we as parents are responsible to actually give our kids good advice and to teach them the Word of God, otherwise the writer would not be reminding us to go back to seek our parents for such things!
The burden of teaching our children lands squarely on the back of the parents according to my understanding of this verse. It is a heavy calling, but one that must be met with the knowledge and faith of God in unwavering fashion. A challenge that can be met with the power of God.
Thanking God tonight for the privilege of having children. They are such a gift and blessing from the Lord....even with all the challenges that come with them. Asking a special annointing on all the mothers reading this right now....young and old alike. Help us to always look to God for all knowledge and wisdom.
